Application Process
Getting started is easy. Apply for an open position or submit a general application to begin your journey with us. If you’re a match, we’ll reach out to schedule an interview and begin mandatory reference checks.
- Apply: Begin your journey by applying for your chosen role. Can’t find an opening that matches your background and experience? Submit a general application!
- Reference Checks: Expect your references to be thoroughly checked to ensure alignment with our values and standards.
- Interview: Suitable candidates will be invited for an interview to further explore their fit with the team.
Onboarding Requirements
All staff, which includes paid and volunteer team members alike, must complete background clearances, medical screenings, and required documentation before officially joining our team.
- Background and Medical Checks: Complete a full biometric background check, including fingerprints, and a medical examination to ensure you are fit to work with children, including being clear of tuberculosis.
- Identification Verification: New team members are required to present two forms of identification, including a Social Security Card.
- Comprehensive Training: Completion of full onboarding training, as mandated by the Boys & Girls Club of America (BGCA), Health Department, and NJ Office of Licensing, is mandatory. This training equips our staff with the skills and knowledge to provide the best care and support to our youth.
Looking to Intern or Volunteer?
Volunteers and interns are a valued part of our Club Community. Interns and volunteers follow a similar onboarding process as staff. Background checks and training are required for all participants regardless of age. If no volunteering or interning opportunities are listed under the careers page, we are currently at capacity, but feel free to send us an email at info@bgcgarfield.org to inquire.
- Application & Background Checks: Interns and volunteers undergo an application process similar to our staff. While W4s and I9s are not required, a thorough background and medical check is mandatory. A Social Security card and state-issued ID are still required.
- Training: All interns and volunteers complete the same comprehensive training as our staff, in line with BGCA, Health Department, and NJ Office of Licensing requirements.
This process helps create a safe and professional environment. Individuals must be at least 16 years old for employment or recurring volunteer roles.
